Did you guys know that the market cap of MCI Worldcom alone is greater than that of the ENTIRE S&P Oil&Gas Drilling & Equipment Group AND the S&P 500 Domestic Oil Group COMBINED? 133.25 Billion vs. 42.95 Billion, 62.0 Billion respectively = 104.95 Billion

Dell Computer at 93.4 Billion is more than the entire S&P 500 Domestic Oil Group at a mere 62.0 Billion.

Salomon calls these valuations "anomalies" and has some very interesting, but lengthy, observations...about "new tech" vs. "old tech".

Gary,
If you've got enough memory or not depends on what you're trying to do. Memory has gotten so cheap it's worth a try but I doubt your "slow" performance is a memory problem, unless you're trying to do an awful lot of different things at once.
For example, my desktop is a 120MHz Pentium with 32Meg. I've also got cable modem. I've got two network cards in this beast and running a proxy server so I can simultaneously surf with my laptop thru my desktop on the same account. When I get about four IE windows open with Quicken running in the background or more than two big java apps it starts to slow down a bit. My laptop has 64Meg and it's noticeably faster, but that's more because it's a 233Mhz PII than the memory.
IE5 is more processor efficient. Even with more memory you'll still see an improvement over IE4. Of course, as I said before, if your trying to access a bogged down server nothing you do will help.
