We really ARE counting our chickens before they hatch, aren't we.... (I'm guilty as sin). Anticipated proceeds notwithstanding, I remain convinced that the oil patch is worth a percentage of the old portfolio, but (I think I said this before) the subsector that appears to have the most potential(services - drilling rigs etc) is also one of the bigger crapshoots... I think I going to stay with a sector fund on this - and keep it at a relatively modest level. Boring, but I'm out of my league (I've said this before, too, I think) in this area.

Did a lot of trolling this weekend. Do ANY of you have a position with or opinion about Fore and what may be going on with it? Volume skyrocketed on Friday - lots of options volume (expensive options, in my opinion, by the way). Rumor is of a takeover/merger to be announced forthwith. The threads here and elsewhere aren't providing any REALLY meaningful data except that (1) the management of the company are jerks (hmmmmm), (2) stock price is depressed (hmmmmmmmmm) and (3) there have been rumors before...... Beyond that, it seems as though Fore-people don't dig very deeply. I Like what we've done here (and even on the Yahoo thread) much better. In that single regard, I propose that those of us who are interested commit to staying in touch for the express purpose of collaborating on our subjects of interest post-VLSI (counting chickens again)... Worthwhile? Yes? No?

FWIW. My hunt list (below) is why I was focusing on energy:

1. A company with good product but whose
2. Fundamentals have been hammered more than their competitors
3. For either not very good reason or for a reason that is being overcome in a
4. Sector that has also been hammered but is recovering.
5. The company should have a market cap of no less than $500b or so,
6. Have little debt and lots of cash,
7. Be actively traded and
8. With LEAPS available - options attractively priced given the upside potential of the company.
9. Stock price needs to be enough above $5 that there is really no danger of delisting. Ideally above $10, but not really necessary.

In short - a duplicate of our darlin' VLSI. Hmmmmmmm.
