I think 8i will be a great hit, once it is out.

I probably would not want to buy 8 if I know 8i will come out soon. We'll just have to see how Oracle performs when 8i comes out in the store shelf.

Oracle is the most tunable database available on the market and it supports nearly every platform of computer out there. Compare to DB2, Sybase, or MS SQL Server, Oracle has far superior it turn of portability, scalability, and tunability. For one, I got great faith in Oracle will out perform any other database for near by future.

I think ORCL purposely moved some revenue from Q3 to Q4 by delaying the availability of 8i (to 3/1/99). They want to make a really good Q4 and attribute it to 8i. A good beginning of 8i might attract more attention, more buyers, more deals,... This is just my guess, but I would bet that ORCL will certainly beat the 34c estimates for Q4.
