The virtual company may not have as sweet an arrangement with INTC and MSFT, but then do we really know what deals have been inked?
Intel pretty much determines who is the "closest" partner by how much Intel product they buy, so from that standpoint DELL/IBM would improve their position if they maintain an Intel-centric strategy. But this clearly would take DELL farther from Microsoft. IBM (despite FUD in the press about their NT engineering efforts) has a terrible relationship with Microsoft. DELL's recent endorsement and packaging of non-Microsoft products (Novell's boarder manager and FastCache and Linux bundles, for example) also indicate that DELL is moving to a less dependent relationship with Microsoft.

The big question in my mind around an arrangement of this type is whether DELL can remain focused while dancing with such a clumsy partner as IBM.
