NEW YORK, March 21 (Reuters) - High-flying Internet service provider America Online Inc. (NYSE:AOL) topped Barron's first annual 500 list of the nation's best largest publicly traded firms for investors, Barron's reported in its March 22 issue.

The public's appetite for anything computer-related was evident as the list's top five companies included AOL, Dell Computer Corp. (NASDAQ:DELL), Best Buy (NYSE:BBY), EMC Corp. (NYSE:EMC) and Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
