Compaq Goes All-In-One With New A900
For Printing, Faxing, Color Copying and Scanning

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--
Exclusive Compaq Control Form Allows A900 to 'Read'
Handwritten Instructions and Easy-to-Use Front Panel
Designed for One-Touch Operation
Consumers and small businesses now have quick printing, faxing,
copying and scanning at their fingertips in one simplified, compact
design. Compaq Computer Corporation [CPQ-news] today announced the
easy-to-use Compaq A900 All-In-One, an extension to Compaq's current
inkjet printer line. Compaq is now poised to be a long-term player in
the printer market by continuing to provide a complete solution to the
consumer. Available to consumers in April, the Compaq A900 features an
exclusive Control Form that "reads" handwritten instructions for
simultaneous faxing, copying and scanning -- and is as easy to use as
pen and paper.
Available for $349(a), the innovative design of the Compaq A900
Front Control Panel has been simplified to just 11 buttons (in
addition to the standard telephone keypad) without reducing
functionality.
"Unlike other All-In-One products, Compaq's A900 offers a
simplified front control panel and an exclusive paper template called
a Control Form that allows the product to 'read' handwritten
instructions," said Laurie Frick, Vice President of Consumer
Peripherals, Compaq Computer Corporation. "With the Compaq A900,
consumers get Compaq's same quality printing performance plus the
convenience of faxing, color copying and scanning -- all from the
front panel, in one user-friendly, space-saving design."
The Compaq A900 also offers the fastest printing technology
available in a multifunction inkjet product in this price category.
Compaq's Control Form, combined with the user-friendly front control
panel, simplifies faxing, copying and scanning functions. The Compaq
A900 automatically distinguishes between voice and fax incoming calls
with Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) technology, allowing
for one phone line to handle telephone, answering machine, fax and
online activity. In addition, the Compaq A900 is bundled with WinFax
Basic Edition 9.0 Software.
Compaq Control Form Simplifies Options
Exclusively available with Compaq's multifunction product, Compaq
engineers have designed the "Compaq Control Form," a paper template
printable from the A900 front control panel. Users simply check their
requirements for faxing, copying and scanning, then feed the document
into the front of the unit, press the Control Form button and the
Compaq A900 does the rest. For example, to send a group fax, the user
checks off the fax preferences on the Control Form with a pen or
pencil, and the Compaq A900 automatically "reads" the form to send the
fax to multiple people simultaneously. At the same time, you could
create customized copies and scan your image in the graphics format of
your choice.
Vibrant Color Copies and High-Quality Scanning from One-Touch
Front Panel
With a standard 12-button number keypad and individual fax, copy
and scan buttons, the Compaq A900 front panel is easy to use, even for
a novice user. The user-friendly front control panel provides copying
selections compatible with those offered on larger machines. The front
control panel offers easy scanning directly into the software
application of your choice. For making standout banners for this
weekend's garage sale or tomorrow's business presentation, users can
initiate color choice and other copy options -- all from the front
panel.
Scanned-in documents or photos, initiated from the front control
panel, have seven destination choices, including e-mail. For
text-based applications, the automatic Optical Character Recognition
(OCR) function works as an assistant editor converting scanned
documents into editable text without retyping. Bundled with software
by ScanSoft -- Pagis ScanWorks and TextBridge Classic OCR -- the A900
makes high-quality scans easy to produce.
Compaq A900 Offers Fast Printing, Laser-Sharp Text and High
Resolution
Using the fastest printer technology available in this price
category, the Compaq A900 prints with laser-sharp text and provides
rich vibrant color at a high resolution (up to 1200 x 1200 dpi).
Bundled with LivePix SOHO, the A900 provides a competitive edge for
consumers or small-business owners who want to create professional
quality business materials using their photos and hundreds of
ready-made templates.

After CPQ's cc with JP Morgan on Friday with NO warning announcement, I would hopefully suspect that CPQ will NOT issue an earnings warning for this quarter.

Again, I'm hopeful but unsure
