Kosovo a deadly trap for many?

Chaosad,

Mr.Milosevic is not a fool. Rockets and all the electronic gear in the world can not prevent the necessity to deploy ground forces after modern weapons can do no more.

Then the Kosovo, taking the unstable Russian situation into consideration (continious supply of arms and men) could become at the very least a European Vietnam.

Count Bismarck back in 1870 said that the Kosovo is not worth the bones of a single Prussian grenadier. Mr.Hitler sent his best SS troops into the same region to fight the partisans. To no avail.

There were other methods available to get Milosevic see the light.

A very bad situation and again as so many times before the question is.Who is going to lose their lives and property?

The poor suckers of this world. Right?

Not Mrs.Allbright or any of the Nato Generals.

ED

Arrogance and sentiments of impunity? I do not believe any of my statements have been anything less than matter-of-fact. My statements would hold even if we were entrenched in another Cold War where our actions were anything but without opposition. I havent made any affirmative statements to involvement in Yugoslavia, so your argument is attacking a straw man. As to our "naked aggression," I believe I have made my opinion clear previously. Attacking the US as "aggressor" and canonizing the poor Serbs is like demonizing the Vietnamese for having invaded the Cambodia of the Khmer Rouge. Quite a few Croats and Bosnians lying in mass grave soccer fields would take offense at your statement.

To make myself entirely clear about Yugoslavia, no we have no direct interests in Serbia or Kosovo. Do we have cause for alarm at the possibility of the conflict spilling over into Albania, Greece, and the eventual entering of Turkey? Do we have an interest in preventing a senseless war of racism escalating into a general Mediteranean war? Many policy makers in Washington think so, and they know more about the situation than I. Personally I dont give a hoot about Kosovo. But I do care about having to get involved when the stakes are alot higher and the mess alot bloodier. This is the one concern that holds me back from a resounding NO to involvement in Kosovo.

Lastly, such isolationist rhetoric as "resolving our own domestic problems" gets us no where. We can not stick our heads in the sand hoping things will get better and naively believe that the rest of the world will honor our interests abroad. If Americans waited to resolve their domestic problems first 200 years ago, the US would still consist of the territory of the original thirteen colonies, if it wouldnt have been gobbled up by France, Spain, or Britain by now.
