Thread: My thoughts on GEnie: IDT still has 5000 glutton-for-punishment, diehard followers still using GEnie. If IDT started a web site ONLY for IDT ISP customers, they could conceivably get quite a few of the current as well as 400,000 ex users of GEnie to sign up for IDT internet service. IDT currently has a deal going where you can get a year of internet service for $144, ($10.99/month). What if IDT could pull 2500 of the current users over to their internet service? 2500 X $144 = $360,000 in revenue. What if IDT got 1/2 of the previous 400,000 ex users of GEnie to come over with some clever marketing? 200,000 X $144 = $28.8 million. NOT BAD!!! Another $30 million or so a year in revenue. A nice additional 5% increase to their current yearly revenue, and that from an aspect of their business that they were DEemphasizing. No matter what they may do or we may think, we've got to admit, GEnie does have at least SOME possibilities. Bill Zeman 17 3/4
