And why didn't Intel suffer from the same price erosion ?

The Celeron line did suffer from the same price erosion. However, Intel is not dependent on Celeron for profitability. Celeron is strictly a tool used to weaken Intel's competitors.

Products which sit above the knee of the curve (PII and Xeon) were minimally affected by Intel's pricing moves.

They are shipping more to the OEMs (on whose boxes retail share is calculated) at the expense of the rest of the channel.
