The whole world is accepting IS-95 and CDMA2000. Qualcomm has not issued any licences for the commercial introduction of WCDMA so I am not referring to that.

No, the term "CDMA" is not licensed but no one, anywhere, has ever offered mobile CDMA service except for Qualcomm and it's licensees. So let's not argue semantics.

You say "GSM is and is likely to always be the dominant 2G technology."

With the modern pace of technological advances, that's irrelevant. Third generation cellular does the same thing as 2G and more. Kinda like saying:

"Morse Code is and is likely to always be the dominant telegraph standard."

But if you find it comforting, more power to you.
