Today or tomorrow we are assured we will initiate a bombing. I think the new phrase regarding Kosovo is "bomb them to the peace table." The best we can hope for and likely achieve is establishing a ground presense at the end of the bombing to force compliance to our peace terms. This is a civil war for dominance in the region similar to Viet Nam. It is similar in that the struggle for power in this region goes back for centuries in time. The differences between the groups are not merely oriented to political dominance. There are ethnic and religious differences that will likely never be compatible. Attempts by the players to facilitate a genicide of the "other" has been established over history on all sides.
The current battles followed by years of ground support to maintain the stability is predicatable and at a great cost. This type of intervention with no conclusive political goal is exactly what clinton protested against and justified his dodge of the draft by. Has he changed his stripes. I for one would like an explanation.
