There was some strange connection between GM and a South Carolina company that they held some stake in. I never was able to track it down, but has anyone found a link between these companies, or just a question of their offering a competitive product?

Here's a story on Wireless Knowledge.

news.com

It mentions the following -

Under an ambitious schedule, the first commercial launches of the Revolv service offering were expected in some areas by April, but that date has been delayed until May, according to Tom Clarkson, vice president of marketing for WirelessKnowledge.

It also mentions this issue of sending information that recognizes the device and formats information it will handle. This is an interesting subject to me as I believe the hybrid use of voice and graphic is very powerful and I'd like to see GM sending data graphically when possible, and taking input via voice.

WirelessKnowledge will customize data to ensure that the information is formatted appropriately for each device. For example, on a two-way pager, emails might only show the subject heading. However, on a personal digital assistant (PDA) such as a Windows CE-based device or a PalmPilot, which have larger viewable screens, the full email may be read. The same is true for phones and pagers.

Anyways, the article is mostly PR and doesn't say much to change basic views of the WK GM relationship. I tried making contact with WK while I was in California, but never got a call back. I think it would be very interesting for someone to do some digging with WK and see what they have to say.

Regards,

Mark
