If memory serves me correctly, while NASD was being investigated for market manipulation, there were a number of cases sited in the report that one MM would call others on the phone and tell them to lay off the market so that he can dump his large blocks without the other MMs getting hurt. Old habits die hard and even though SEC forced new regulations on NASD, some of these actions may still be around. You may want to look at the SEC report on NASD to see if you find other examples of market manipulation. Also keep in mind that this is the window dressing time of the season. so expect the strong to get stronger and the weak to get weaker over the next 10 days.
