Off Topic (Y2k and medical)
That is exactly my point (by the way, I'm in the USA too). The office I consulted for is an office I'd been working with for the past 6 years or so. I gave them the heads up on Y2k about 2 years ago and their office was ready as of January this year, with the exception of a fax machine and an old 486 that needed to be replaced anyway. The worst place I called was was a surgery center that my client used. Not only was their surgery equipment not ready for Y2k, but their entire billing, patient info system was not ready. They were planning on upgrading everything within the next 6 months. It's a pretty small outfit with no technical people on staff. I told my client not to bother scheduling anything with that center until February of next year.

I'm also doing an analysis of the risk of revenue collection from insurance companies. I'm currently waiting on a report from Washington State on the Y2k readiness of the insurance companies. This effects my clients electronic billing system and the bottom line. It doesn't matter what % of internal systems are ready if we can't bill for services..

I'm not planning on getting sick in December!!

Y2K-ers:
I'm not sure if you're in USA or not; Yes I am in US, and in fact my opinion is based partly from Y2K-immersed HMO consultant friends of mine... so again health care industry. According to congressional report, health care is particularly behind, so that shouldn't necessarily be the overall barometer... however my small sample of inside info at government agencies indicates they are also behind.
As for "industry", I'd suspect that eg banks are fairly well set as IT is such a visibly central part of their operation (ie: it holds top mgt attention)... in other industries, wherever IT is not reporting to the top, there will have been a recipe for middle managers to duck being the "cause" of the expense to fix it, until too late when it reached everyone's lips.
