Edwin, I've also had problems in getting tape backups to work well. I had a Colorado on my old Gateway 486-66 and always found it slow and frustrating. Zips are much faster and easier for backing up your important data, but maybe a bit expensive for backing up your entire HD. The action of selling the Ditto resources is an indication that Mr. Glore is earning his pay and I look forward to more of the same.

I have a question though, did Iomega have an urgent need for this 3 million dollars? As I remember the purchase of Syquest's intellectual assets and much of their manufacturing equipment was contingent on also buying Syquest's plant in Malaysia. Iomega was financially strapped and only recently paid down their loan from Mr. Dunn. Rather than go into debt at this time is it possible that this drove the decision to sell the Ditto assests? No matter, I still think that this was a good move overall as tape will no longer be the answer to avg. PC users in backing up their systems.

There was also the rumor of very high density "optical" technology being in the wings which will be far and above what is allowed through Jaz technology (say 5 to 10 Gigabyte capacities). In that Iomega retained its "Ditto" and its "One Step Backup" trademarks, it is possible that these new devices would be touted as Y2K solutions for the average computer user. I believe that you will be hearing a lot from Iomega regarding Y2K solutions after April 15th! Just wait and see... Just my reasoned opinion. Mel
