The Shiites are Muslim aren't they? At the death of Mohammed the Shiites accepted the son of Mohammed as their leader. The Sunni accepted one of Mohammed's assistants as the leader of the religion. They have had disagreements ever since. The Kurds were part of the remnant of Byzantium after the Huns and later Turks conquered it. They were converted to Sunni after the death of Mohammed. (If memory of old history lessons serves me right). TP
