Yes, but remember that France was a bit like this around the time of Louis XVI and Russia too some 80+ years ago. The aristocratic class didn't exactly exit these periods happily!

[OT] Actually, some banks have gone so far as to cancel credit cards of individuals who pay-off their balance every month!

Others don't go quite that far, but only offer a higher rate to people who pay-off their balances.

Screw em'! I use a credit union. Thank goodness they didn't get outlawed. (Credit unions that don't have very specific membership criteria almost got outlawed, at the urging of big banks.)

I get free checking, CD rates higher than any bank in town, and credit card and auto loan rates cheaper than any bank in town, and friendly, personalized service.

I'm not sure why anybody would want to use a bank for personal accounts.

Now, if Datek could offer the kind of service my credit union does...
