PAL: These ANALysts are interesting animals. SG Cowen has been quite bullish on DELL until recently. Yet, they "downgrade" DELL from a strong buy to a buy and don't explain it very well. Cowen also writes an Internet Capitalist letter every 2 weeks -- a great way to hype their interest in their favorite internet stocks. In this weeks 7 part letter (that I just scanned on my First Call Database) they took pages and pages to talk about the glorious future AOL and AMZN would have. Yet, there was very little discussion about valuation. Hmmm....one of these stocks has a sky high P/E ...the other has no P/E. Yet with DELL everyone gets so concerned with the valuation <ggg>. IMHO, DELL is truly a "VALUE STOCK" at current prices. I have enhanced a posting from a DELLhead that was listed in the last 24 hours. The #s for the company's listed below are based on last Friday's prices.

Regards,

Scott

<<When I bought Dell a few weeks ago, I thought I was getting a growth company with outstanding momentum. Little did I know that I was really getting a value stock. ;-)

++++++++

P/E=Price to earnings ratio (for trailing 12 months)
P/E FOR= Price to earnings ratio (projected for next 12 months)
PSR= Price to sales ratio
ROE =Return on Equity

(next 12 months)
Ticker P/E (for last year) For P/E PSR ROE
DELL 75.9 54.4 5.61 75.0 ....DELL
AMZN NE NE 35.67 NE .....Amazon
AOL 542.0 350.7 33.71 17.6 .....AOL
CSCO 127.4 71.1 16.71 14.9.......Cisco
KO (Coke) 47.5 45.9 8.84 44.9......Coke
MSFT 72.8 65.8 25.93 29.4......Microsoft
PFE (Pfizer) 55.2 56.5 13.49 38.8.......Pfizer
YHOO NM 447.4 167.67 4.8........Yahoo

***Who would have thought that one could pick a set of very well known momentum stocks where DELL would have the lowest PSR yet the highest ROE?>>

PAL,
Hi!!!
RE: The inconisistency is from Dan Niles who suggested that Dell should be selling sub 1K computer, yet then question the margin. Thus another attempt of an extending his 15 minute fame. Thank you for pointing out that Dell is ramping up higher margin server and storage markets, which will more than offset those of sub 1K computers.

You know I got a chance to see this guy tonight on CNBC....the total mendacity is appalling...never once has he said what you just repeated from Scott ....I know I perhaps scream toooo much about that server facility I saw last July...but,let me tell you....the words of my father keep echoing in my ears...his expression upon viewing the the photos was something no actor could duplicate : "my Kemble, what knowledge and confidence DELL must have...."
How come members of this thread know where DELL is headed and this guy never mentions it??? Mendacity...or ignorance...????

And, then this evening I read this compliments of MSD:

"Our overall cost structure is much less than any competitor," said an unworried Dell. "You'll see Dell Computer continue to grow much faster than the rest of the industry," he added, noting that his company will beef up sales efforts this year in the $50 billion server market, where Dell has a mere 8% market share."

Why run after that cheap PC that leaks oil so badly you fill it up with oil and check the gas?

BUY DELL...it's damn cheap in here

Best, Kemble
