Conference Call to Highlight Latin American Cellular/PCS Growth

PRNewswire

WASHINGTON, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellular/PCS markets
throughout Latin America will achieve impressive growth rates over the next
several years despite uncertainty in Latin American economies. The Strategis
Group projects cellular/PCS subscribers growing from about 20 million in 1998
to nearly 80 million in 2005.

Among other factors, increased licensing activity is promoting competition and
driving growth throughout the region. Over the past two years, governments
across the region have issued over 60 licenses, with about 15 additional
licenses planned for distribution over the next few years. New licensing has
resulted in full competition (more than two competitors) in four Latin
American markets and duopoly competition in 11 markets (out of a total of 21
markets analyzed). Three additional markets are expected to experience full
competition in 1999.

The rapid growth of prepaid in Latin America cellular/PCS markets is having
a declining effect on average revenue per user (ARPU). Weighted average
ARPU for Latin America is expected to decline from around US$70 per
month in 1999 to $43 per month in 2005. Nevertheless, strong subscriber
growth is expected to compensate for decreasing ARPU, producing increasing
annual cellular/PCS service revenue for every year of the projection period.

An examination of these and other findings is the focus of The Strategis
Group's recent study: Latin America Cellular/PCS Markets: 1999. Markets
trends analyzed in this study will be discussed in a conference call with Stuart
Adler, lead analyst for wireless issues in Latin America, on Thursday, March
25 at 2:00 PM (EST). The call will include a presentation to be followed by a
question and answer session. Slides for the presentation can be accessed on
the Web at strategisgroup.com.

If you would like to learn more about the conference call, please contact
Stuart Adler or Michael Krier at (202) 530-7500 by Noon (EST) on Thursday,
March 25.
