Now THAT man is the epitome of arrogance!!! ANd good for you!!! We had something similar only there was no way in hell I would have said a word. Dan was a young associate with a law firm here in Dallas, and we were having a summer clerk and wife to dinner. There were these weird rules for this-- like you invited a few associate couples and then one major partner who lent the evening importance or something. The partner didn't show and didn't show- he was two hours late. ANd of course, because it was a business thing- no one dared get drunk and enjoy themselves. We all sat there and tried to make conversation and got hungrier and hungrier. I was absolutely furious. I still remember (and this was probably 15 years ago) that I had made tomatoes stuffed with a spinach soufflé for the vegetable. (Gougère is terrible cold -at least mine is- gets all chewy or something--- would be interested in how you do yours.)
