He did expand on that comment a while back. ( in an interview with Charlie Rose) Essentially, if your toaster, microwave, heating/Air conditioning, VCR, car and other appliances are all intelligent and connected, I believe MD sees a greater role for the PC in coordinating, controlling and generally acting as a 'master server' for all these intelligent connected devices. i.e. - They won't replace the PC, just establish an environment in which the PC can add even more value. ... or at least that was my understanding of the gist of his words.
