It depends on the vault and the database.

I am more comfortable on the security level with off-line databases, but then how useful can information be if the proper people can't get to it? Why do you think Xerox turned into a big, successful company?

You have to make sure you are getting more than you are giving up. The bio-ID industry is all about controlling risk.

Who's going to win in the cargo security rollout (besides the systems providers)? The insurers and their insureds. Why do you think Mastercard is considering a $1.5 billion investment in biometric readers? Not because they like new toys, but because they'll cut down even more on fraud. The product has to pull its weight with the customers and save them money.

In a military context, I think the government should consider using a premium product . . . an onboard CPU reader. Not paper. Even the military has to use its secrets.
