You might do better to ask Gary B. himself, but until he shows up...

The handle is always after the cup. Basically the formation is a peak, followed by a fairly substantial dip, followed by a return to the old high, forming a double top, followed by another retreat, but one which bottoms much at a much higher level than before. The theory is that a break through the top from this formation rates to be powerful and may be permanent.

So all we'd need is a close below 174 again tomorrow (especially if it's a wide-ranging day) and we'd be able to see a little handle on MSFT.

Ahh. Here's a recent cup-n-handle: BCST. The cup (far from perfect, but good enough, I guess) is between 2/1 and 3/1 or 3/2. [Some folks say the right side of the cup is supposed to be lower than the left which this one isn't.] The handle extends from then until 3/19. Today was the big breakout that these things are said to presage.

Does the handle normally occur in front of the cup or after it? Is a "Handle" essentially a flat, horizontal trading trend (say like the handle on a cooking pot) or is it more vertical in nature (like the handle on a coffee mug)?

It's always after the cup. The handle is like the coffee cup handle if you removed the top so that it's like a "U" instead of an "O".

Teflon, OT Dell. It is getting cheaper. If it hits 36, I am looking to buy. In addition, Gateway is the other PC company on my buy list.

What happens when an industry struggles-----lots of deals!! Then stocks go up.
Looking for someone to make a takeover bid for Gateway.
