To all every now and then I like to bring over some good talk from another string-Con permiso BRAD Real Time Quote Chart Free E-Mail Raging CMGIOT Links New! < Previous Respond Next > By: bradgoldstein Reply To: None Monday, 22 Mar 1999 at 10:07 PM EST Post # of 10534 CMGI to compete with AOL? I think this may be an avenue worth pursuing. Wetherell has already stated how successful Planet Direct is at retaining users once they enter this customizeable portal. Why not provide direct Internet access? CMGI could make Planet Direct a powerful portal with bandwith from NaviSite & NaviNet, email through Critical Path, ads through Adsmart using Engage profiling, financial boards provided through Raging Bull, search w/ Lycos, family "circles" w/ My Family, a Zines link to ZineZone, movies sold through Reel.com, broadcasting available through Magnitude Networks, tickets available through TicketsLive, vitamins available through Mothernature.com, maps provided by Vicinity, and even furniture through Furniture.com! The list could go on. IMO, CMGI needs to create an all encompassing portal or "network", much like Disney chose to do with Infoseek. This could totally promote synergy amongst the CMGI family of investments. I think the answer may come in the form of Planet Direct. David clearly mentioned that Planet Direct is already very successful at retaining users, like the 1st or 2nd best on the Web - He said that all they need to do now is attract more people. I say GO FOR IT! ALSO provide cheap Net access and go for AOL. Why not? It seems to me that everything is already in place. So, what about today's performance? Who knows? All that I know is that I am more confident than ever that CMGI will prove to be WAY huger down the road. I believe in David Wetherell. I think that David knows the Internet better than anyone. David eats, sleeps, and poops Internet! I do not think that anyone knows the Internet better and he really sounded confident in that conference call. He said that he thinks their new broadcasting company will be worth as much as CMGI's current market cap all by itself down the road! I saw A TON of potential when I first invested in CMGI 17 months ago, but CMGI's success has dwarfed my hugest expectations. They have already accomplished more than I ever imagined, and in a short amount of time. I dare not even attempt to imagine the future of CMGI, but I do know that it promises to be AMAZING. AMAZING!!!!!!!!! They are SO WELL positioned so early in the greatest technological revolution in the history of the world. Short term will likely prove to see continued volatility, but the next several years look unbelieveable for this Internet powerhouse. CMGI has their hands on a large portion of the Internet poulation already with its companies reaching greater than 47% of the Net's users. Synergy baby! These little companies that are getting huge will only continue to contribute to CMGI by pumping money into other CMGI related companies. For example, The Raging Bull uses Adsmart, NaviSite, Critical Path, and other CMGI resources. Many in CMGI's "family" already work together and they continue to form additional strategic relationships. The new @Ventures IIII will be $500 million - $1 billion. This will help invest in many new companies that will once again further contribute to CMGI's success by funnelling addional dollars into existing CMGI companies. This company is freakin amazing and a lot of good things are on the way! 2 IPOs have already been filed, 2 more majority owned companies will file to IPO within the next 3 months, a split is approaching, the new broadcast company headed by the former NBC president is under way, etc... I continue to suggest, as I always have, that one should DEFINITELY consider buying and holding CMGI. This is not a reccommendation to buy and I am not a broker, etc... I am long 650 shares (soon to be 1300) and this company has already changed my life forever. I don't know the best time to buy it, but I believe that this is a company that everyone should have in their portfolios. Also, check out SEEK and AOL lately, they have significantly contributed to my reaching a new all time high today. I fear the market short term, as usual, but the long term looks rosy. I added one more UMG leap to my portfolio today (bringing me up to 3), and I may buy a few more tomorrow. Later, Brad GOOD HUNTING DAVE DICKERSON
