Snap's launch of a broadband service
on Monday, featuring audio and video
content from a variety of
broadcasters, shows that the next
rush to make money on the Net may
look a lot like the first one. But
if Snap aims to hook its users on
speedy connections to the Net, it
may have to face off with Yahoo
(YHOO), the winner of that original
land-grab.

IT'S A SHOWDOWN
Yahoo -- as well as other portal
contenders -- aren't likely to sit
still while Snap aims to capture
more users, however.

The portal giant's broadband efforts
are rumored to be troubled, but Yahoo
has an ace in the hole. As first reported
in the Red Herring Online a week
ago, Dallas-based rich media guide Broadcast.com
may be interested in merging with a larger player.

Paul, from the YUK Register article,

The 300 people out of the 13,800 personnel on its payroll which AMD said it
would lay off are not connected with its chip business at all.

YUK again. A guy I know (engineering manager) with 25 years or so in the computer systems and CPU chip industry, who was working at AMD's headquarters on Duane Av., Sunnyvale, where they are in the chip business, just got laid off last Friday. The YUK does it again!
