"New evidence that the rise of electronic commerce is a wave..."

So begins an article in the yesterday's NY Times of a recent study conducted by Odyssey on e-commerce. Among the highlights: a fourfold increase in e-commerce in just the last four months, to a total of 56 million purchases. (No, the Times doesn't indicate how much of that was digital content.) The percentage of households on line jumped to 33% from 23% from a year earlier; 47% of those made an on-line purchase in the last 6 months, up from 30% a year ago. Average number of purchases is 3.7 compared with 1.7 from 6 months ago. Much of the increase is attributed to aggressive marketing of e-commerce by AOL.
