Les, you are absolutely correct that the character of the decline and the severity will tell us how far we might move in the autumn.

I took a sociology course in the '80's that talked about how frenetic
societies can become at the end of each millenium...

Many, many where looking for the end of the world back at as the year 1000 approached. Other had overly optimistic expectations.

This optimism happened as well at the end of the last century

I think that the potency of this millenium euphoria has been under appreciated as a factor in the psychology of the market in the 2nd half of the 1990's.

If the decline is not too steep this spring then the fall may be wild indeed.
