Liam, does StockTax98 handle wash sales correctly?

To all interested in the StockTax software for creating .qif files and Scd D data to attach to 1998 tax returns:

Try the demo which will show you what some of your broker data would look like and to test it on your system and broker's site.

Have some experience to report now. It will do the Sch D data, tho you may have to repair non-matched trades, and adjust non-deductable trade losses. StockTax has an editor for that purpose.

It will produce .qif files. These contain only Sch D items. No cash withdrawals, infusions .... just what goes into a Sch D.

However, I did use the .qif generator to rebuild a corrupted Quicken DATEK account by downloading 1998 trades, creating a new Quicken account, importing the .qif file created by StockTax and then adding back manually the cash transactions, margin exp and interest income.

All came out exactly right ... after I found a screwup by DATEK back in 1997. Be cautioned that DATEK's mailed out Statements and what you download differ in amounts and dates. Go with the download dates and numbers if you want your register to agree with DATEK's server.

I do recall complaints about DATEK back office books around that time. Much irate chatter on the DATEK thread in SI.

I seldom check in with SI these days. Just not enough time. So your inquiries may not be answered by me.

The price of StockTax98 is more like a lease. It works until the end of August. In my case the cost easily matched the benefits.
