David,

He's very adamant about privacy issues and even though INTC has provided a software fix to turn it off, it is his opinion that anything that can be turned off can be turned back on. He thinks that INTC should manufacture a different chip without the identifier for the consumers that do not want it. You can argue the merits of the privacy issue all day long, but if certain users don't want it there's no point in alienating your customer.

OT PIII What specifically concerns him about the identifier?


I've been holding off a purchase of PIII because of the indentifier. I really don't want anyone tracking my activities on the internet. It's hard to say what bad may come of it now, but if some place has gathered 10 years of activity I don't know what they could make of it.
