Fore offers virtual private network service

March 23, 1999 11:08 AM
PITTSBURGH, March 23 (Reuters) - Fore Systems, Inc., a maker of equipment that links computers to networks, on Tuesday announced the availability of its Demarc 100 broadband device, which manages traffic flow and bandwidth on networks.

The Demarc 100 will help Fore expand its presence in two expanding markets--enterprise customers and service providers.

It will allow customers to implement managed services with increased performance, flexibility and predictable bandwidth management capabilities.

Niel Viljoen, senior vice president and general manager of Fore's service provider business unit, said, "With this solution, Fore Systems is responding to the needs of enterprise customers who want to deploy converged network solutions over ATM- or Ethernet-based virtual private networks."

The product also gives service providers detailed billing information, allowing them to offer customized and cost-effective pricing plans.

On Monday, Fore experienced volatile options trading, as speculation of a company takeover bid grew, according to traders.

In Nasdaq trading Monday, its shares closed at 18-11/16. ((New York Newsdesk, 212-859-1700)) REUTERS
