OT AMD The primary stumbling block ... it could not accomplish the delicate process of reproducing the manufacturing steps used in AMD's R&D fab in Sunnyvale. I used to work for a semi equipment manufacturer and a big problem that AMD and several others had was that they will setup these R&D line with engineers and the best techs from the company. They can build anything one set of wafers at a time. Then they tell the fab to run batches of wafers, with techs who have been out late the night before, and bigger cleanrooms where they can't afford to change the filters as often. When things don't work the same way as in R&D they claim the equipment is malfunctioning. Usually it just isn't adjusted as often and as carefully as the R&D folks did it. TP
