Dan, I'm not sure how it would violate the uptick rule if the purpose is to protect against downside risk. This is the opposite of boxing a short in order to avoid having to borrow the stock or to avoid the uptick rule. The short sell would be marked as such, and then the buy to cover occurs in the short sub account. There is no sale of the long shares in this strategy, unless I'm missing something.

Barb
