OFF TOPIC:
This doesn't relate directly to AXC, but it does relate to recent events here on the board. In an effort to understand why people occasionally get irritable with one another, it's nice to examine the social roots of human behavior. Just trying to help keep the peace.
Hope this helps..........al

A Little history lesson for you...History of Giving the Finger:

Giving the Finger:

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory
over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured
English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore be incapable of fighting in the future.

This famous weapon was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as "plucking the yew" (or "pluck yew").

Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, "See, we can still pluck yew! PLUCK YEW!"

Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant
cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodental fricative
'F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the
one-finger-salute are mistakenly thought to have something to do with an intimate encounter.

It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used w/ the
longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as "giving the bird".

And yew thought yew knew everything!

REDWOOD ALTO, CA, MARCH 10, 1997--Ampex Corporation announced today that it has been chosen to participate in Legato Systems, Inc.'s Enterprise Solutions Partner (ESP) Program -- joining a select group of partners reselling industry-leading storage management solutions. As a Legato ESP, Ampex will be positioned to deliver fully-integrated storage solutions that combine high performance DST. tape systems with NetWorker enterprise storage management applications.
Ampex DST tape drives and automated cartridge libraries are designed for data- intensive environments where customers need fast archive and retrieval, backup and restore or hierarchical storage management (HSM) applications. One Ampex DST drive can backup more than 50 GB per hour and store up to 330 GB on a single cartridge. DST automated cartridge libraries can access files in less than 25 seconds on average, and are well-suited for storing multimedia objects which require large file sizes and high bandwidth.

NetWorker is an easy to use, highly scalable family of enterprise storage management applications for protecting mission critical data by providing backup and recovery, archive and retrieval and file migration (HSM) for networks of all sizes.

DST tape drives and ACLs are supported under Legato Systems NetWorker 4.2.5 enterprise storage management for UNIX on Sun Solaris 2.4, 2.5. NetWorker provides support for DST tape drives and ACLs through Legatos High Speed Device Support Module.

"We are pleased to become a Legato Enterprise Solutions Partner and believe that this relationship will put us in a better position to deliver complete high performance storage management solutions," commented James Christie, Ampex vice president of sales. "The ability of our respective organizations to work together through the ESP program will ensure continued optimization of DST tape systems with Legato NetWorker and provide for improved customer support."

Network storage management and data protection is a rapidly growing market. UNIX storage is increasing at greater than 60% annually, so the need for improved storage management solutions is becoming of acute interest to anyone responsible for overseeing valuable information assets. Whether it be for backup of online databases or for improving availability through file system storage and retrieval or HSM, the market is aggressively seeking better ways to manage its data.

"The combination of DST tape systems and NetWorker storage management software allows users to benefit from online, unattended backup for the corporate database, application-specific database and data warehouse," noted Nora Denzel, senior vice president of product operations at Legato Systems, Inc.

Denzel added: "Ampex tape systems are a powerful and cost-effective complement to our software. We are looking forward to a long-term, mutually profitable relationship with Ampex."

Legato Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: LGTO), headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif., develops, markets and supports network storage management software products for heterogeneous client/server computing environments.
