Holographic Dimensions, Inc. to Develop Lippmann OVD Technology
MIAMI, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Holographic Dimensions, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: HGRM - news) announced today that it has entered into a technology development agreement with De Montfort Expertise Limited to develop and bring to market a new optical variable security device (OVD) based on Lippmann photographic technology. Under the terms and conditions of the agreement, HDI will have exclusive rights to the technology, for which a U.S. patent is pending, paying De Montfort Expertise Limited a royalty on the sale of security products utilizing the technology.
Lippmann photography is a method of recording two-dimensional color pictures using a high-resolution black & white photo emulsion. This method differs from conventional color recording in that the color is
not produced by exposing three layers of photosensitive materials as in conventional color photography, but by recording a fringe pattern (very much like a reflection hologram). The size of the fringe pattern is based on the color of the light that recorded it. When played back, the fringe pattern will reconstruct the original frequencies, or colors, that recorded it.
The Lippmann OVD under development provides for the security of passports, drivers' licenses and other forms of document security where personalization is required. The main advantage of the Lippmann OVD is that it can be recorded ''in-house'' by the document issuer providing for one unique OVD for each security document. This new security system will incorporate a machine to produce the security device on a special photo-polymer film emulsion. De Montfort and HGRM are currently pursuing several manufactures of photo-polymer emulsions to partner within the development of the technology.
De Montfort Expertise Limited is a partnership between De Montfort University, Leicester, England, Dr. Hans Bjelkhagen, Dr. Nick Phillips and Dr. T.J. Jeong, who co-developed the technology. Pursuant to the
agreement, De Montfort University will select a student who will earn his Ph.D. by assisting with the research and development of the recording emulsion for the Lippmann security system.
According to Kevin G. Brown, President & CEO of HGRM, ''Although our holographic products are well suited for mass security applications, some security applications require an additional level of security
where personalization of the security document is required. This new technology fulfills that market requirement providing HGRM with the ability to service all of its customers' needs when it comes to
product/document security. Additionally, the co-inventors of this technology constitute the contemporary fathers of our industry, representing more than a hundred years of combined experience in holographic and related optical technologies. Our industry has come a long way through their innovations and we look forward to developing many exciting new applications for holographic, and related technologies.''
Holographic Dimensions, Inc. is a vertically integrated manufacturer of holographic imagery. The Company's products are incorporated into a variety of security products including, but not limited to, credit cards, negotiable documents, event tickets, transit passes, and consumer products for marketing.
