DUH, IT'S THE TECHNOLOGY THAT NEEDS TO BE PAID FOR, ON BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK END. BTW, THINK ANY OF THE FORTUNE 500 COS. WILL BE ENTRUSTING THEIR DATA TO $600 MACHINES ANYTIME SOON? AS MORE AND MORE COMPANIES STANDARDIZE ALL OF THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEMS WHO DO YOU THINK THEY'LL WANT TO DEAL WITH, THE COMPANY WITH THE BEST DIRECT SYSTEM AND SERVICE IN THE INDUSTRY OR THOSE THAT ARE STILL TRYING TO DRAG THEIR MODELS INTO THE NEXT CENTURY. tHIS IS WHERE DELL/IBM SYNERGY WILL BE FELT BY THE ENTIRE PC INDUSTRY. YES, I THINK DELL WILL ENTIRE THE CONSUMER MARKET, BUT ONLY AS A SECONDARY TARGET, TO COMPLIMENT THEIR BUSINESS SALES. i'VE NO DOUBT THAT EVEN IN THE CONSUMER MARKET DELL CAN COMPETE IF AND WHEN THEY DECIDE IT'S WORTH THE INVESTMENT. JMHO. REGARDS AND ALOHA. (SORRY FOR THE CAPS, I WASN'T LOOKING AT WHAT I WAS TYPING AND TOO LAZY TO GO BACK AND SHRINK THEM ALL!)

tippet,

Mostly because architecture of a PC is more complex than architecture of a TV. More and more complexity is being masked in the chipset now and Moore's law is alive and well. Nevertheless, even in it's present incarnation, PCs are more complex beasts than TVs. More importantly, PCs are always evolving, whereas the color TV has hardly any improvements made to it in the last 15 years. Innovation costs, unfortunately.

Aside, $600 is a lot more than a TV set. Don't you think you should wait? Or get a workz junior?

As a new investor in DELL... and as a DELL computer owner..just want to say my '95 DELL crashed twice in 98(one month after warranty ran out). It is now completely rebuilt after putting in about $1200 (original cost $3K). I love my DELL but like all machines they only last so long. Will buy daughter a computer for college but not sure now which kind to buy. Under 1K junk? Maybe just as well as a 3K crasher. Who knows? Anyway... I will double my position on any further downtrend here... and fully expect a double on my money within a year. Sat on my hands too long before buying this stock. My money's on Michael Dell,,,, Best regards..Patherzen

"I'm buying another one soon, but I won't give a penny over $600. "

I wouldn't either...except the damn keyboard costs 2000$.
