Shadow, you're right. But I sometimes wonder....I remember paying $2,500 for my first cell phone. The last one they gave me was for free (as long as I paid the $150 per month for .10 per minute calls not to exceed 1200 min. per month). Speed counts. Don't know what others prefer, but I have 2 computers and replace one every other year with the newest, fastest, baddest, etc. Could I be interested in a $600 machine? For what? Parts? Getting on the internet? Bandwith will be key to everything that occurs from this point forward and I don't see these machines in the short term having the capability to do anything more than crack the door open for the internet wannabees. But I often wonder about the people that live in Philly, take the bus, and, in general, feel fortunate to have at least two jobs to pay the rent. Will they buy a computer? Do they care? Is this low end market smoke and mirrors where someone will have to choose between buying their bus pass and buying a computer? There are some that will never buy even at these prices because they just don't have any sense of what it means to them. When the MAJOR ISSUE is putting food on the table or paying rent, I don't see these individuals forking over $600 for the best that their after tax dollars can buy. Could be wrong, but when you drill down deeper, I remain a bit dubious about the profitability of the sub-$1K computer market or that there is even a demand that drives it at the moment. Surely, that will change at some time, but Dell is fine and for the most part (with the exception of delayhing their hiring of Mohan for their PR department, Kemble for their investment department, William Michaels for their mergers and acquisitions department,Chuzz for their finance and economic modeling department, edamo for their stock buy back program, Freeus for their Gigabuys.com program, and a few select others....) and I just can't think of another company that has a better shot of dominating their markets and returning value to their shareholders in such a short time frame.... Thank you for your remarks and your participation on this thread. Welcome to the family. Best regards, Mark A. Peterson
