Cheeky-- they need to chill out but not shut up. Medium business still has a ton of work to do. Many have not yet started. Small business are worse but only need to call CPQ and order a new computer or two.
There is still work to be done and it is all expensive. The bug will not bite but to eliminate more of the sting work must continue. It is not over yet but it ain't that big a deal!
Some companies have completed all the work for critical systems and most large ones are nearly completed at minimum. Next comes the recovery plans and butt covering to eliminate, side step, or forward any liability.

Cheeky, about that article:

"Deutsche Bank's Ed Yardeni used his Y2K warnings to make him one
of the highest-profile economists in the world. Unlike Mr. de Jager,
though, his crisis forecast is still intact. He stands by his prediction
that there is a 70-per-cent chance the Y2K problem will trigger a
global recession."

Yardeni was already one of the highest profile economists in the world before y2k was a buzzword. The "Unlike ..." statement is also misleading. I think de Jager would agree with Yardeni's current take on y2k. The name of de Jager's recent article is "Doomsday Avoided", but a global recession is not doomsday. The article also is lame on the implications of foreign y2k noncompliance on the US.
