Another Darwin Contender: On Lake Isabella, in the high desert east of Bakersfield, a blonde new to boating was having a problem: she couldn't get her new 22-ft Bayliner to work. It just wouldn't get on plane at all, and was very sluggish at every maneuver no matter how much power was applied. After spending an hour trying to get it to run right, she putted to the marina. Maybe they could tell her what was wrong. A thorough topside check revealed everything was in working order. The engine was fine, the outdrive went up and down, the prop was the correct size and pitch. So one of the boat mechanics dove into the water to check underneath. He came up choking on water..... Under the boat, still strapped securely in place, was the trailer.
