H,

"Did you go over the top of the other version and did you have problems maintaining your Favorites and Addresses(e-mail)?"

Yes, I installed MSIE 5.0 right over top of MSIE 4.0. And no, it maintained all of my favorites and e-mail folders just fine.

The download didn't totally make sense to me. In a couple places they say they recommend uninstalling your current browser first, but in the download procedure they recommend clicking on the "open from here" box instead of the "save to disk". Well, obviously to "open from here", I had to have a running browser to even be at their site, so I couldn't have uninstall it. So I just went ahead and opened from there and it installed over 4.0 with no problems.

Steve

PS Tried to get the DirectX component again late last night and when I got up this morning had another download error. Not having a cut off or internet problem, my computer is staying connected all night. Don't know if it's just a busy site or I have a conflict on my machine.

I installed 5.0 last night, and although it saved my emails (in Outlook Express) and Favorites, I've had to dredge my brain for login names and passwords to several sites. This may have to do with the install options I chose -- I don't know.

It seems that Bill lied about me being able to run 4.0 AND 5.0 (which was an advanced install option), because 4.0 is nowhere to be seen.

When ie gets launched automatically from a link, it won't start in a full-size window; there's no option to select this in "Internet Options"; and the convenient toolbar icon to view the full-screen is gone.

I don't like the new "msn" icon that replaces the globe and the "e" before that.

I may uninstall if I don't find any redeeming features.
