Actually a position play is more thoughtful and better planned.
In a rising market (ignoring shorts) position plays are nice and can be very exciting. Position plays worry the TA aspects, fundamentals, and rumors. Momemtum plays are just that.
Both can be gratifying.
Position plays are typically safer but can be equally dangerous if you don't watch the TA.
