I agree. The first time I thought of Apple and 3dfx in the same breadth was when I was comparing the devotion of the user base of the two. There are other similarities as well. The big change that 3dfx is facing (besides moving to a vertical model) is that up until now most of their revenue has come from the upgrade market. But to move forward, they'll have to capture the OEM market, because eventually the upgrade market will saturate and 3dfx needs to be there when people upgrade their computers. 3dfx's aloofness however (and I see a ton of it), makes me nervous about its prospects.
