What's the deal Madeleine? Do you bet that the Russians will keep their hands of the Balkans and sacrifice their natural friendship with the Serbs because they need your dollars in order to survive as a emerging democracy?

Yep... looks that way.

After today's rhetoric in which Yeltsin stated Russia would not intervene militarily but would take the "moral high ground", I would suggest the Serbian/Russian relationship may not be as strong as any of us suspected.

Either that or the simple truism, "money talks", still rings true.

I'm sure the Russians extracted some major concessions for not mucking with NATO over Serbia.

Besides, they probably figured "how can we help our Serb brothers when we don't even have friendly access to their border/ports.
