Not so funny - I have a photo of myself and a party of about 20 with a rope around the propellor of a DC10 stuck in the savannahs in Guyana 1 degree off the equator trying to get the engines going.

I have also flown in VC10 through thick fog and blizzards in the far North of Canada into very remote outposts.

My longest trip on one was about 10 hrs from UK to Trinidad (circa 1964).

In one of my "situations" I used to fly standing up, with all the freight, much of it consisting of live goats and sheep.

Your VC 10 has jets - mine had propellors! The UK-Trindad BA VC10 had both (1964). The Canadian VC 10 may have had both - but certainly had jets. Was it evolving?

I have a feeling that my South American adventures were in a VC8 - they were certainly propellor (could they be called "Dakotas"?. Does that make sense).

Neil: OK I've just had my Alzheimer pill for the day. I was talking about DC 10 and DC 8 not VC.

I received a PM suggesting from a helpful reader to the effect that my Dakota "DC8" was, in fact, a DC3. I think the suggestion is right.

Anyway, since we are on the topic - here are some of the unusal things I have done on planes (as passenger):

1. Looped the loop, in a Chipmunk.
2. Fast run in a Vampire double tailed jet fighter.
3. Piloted a glider.
4. Rescued from Brazilian border rain forest in a two-seater Cessna.
5. Many standing-up trips in a DC3.
6. Cross-country, over the Rockies trip in a storm in a 4 seater something or other piloted by a woman, between NWT and the Yukon.
7. DC3 trips in Canadian North.
8. Caused a Jumbo jet to be halted as it was straining to go on the runway in Trinidad, when radio message to the pilot said I had not cleared passport control.

etc etc etc

Any interesting things happened to you?
