JDN: Since I bought some of my current holdings at $41 as Mason was talking to CSFB - and had no opportunity to get out before the market gapped down the enxt morning - I have as much right as anybody to be annoyed.

BUT, Mason has persisently said that he did not change guidance and that his remarks were in response to a suggestion about the whole computer market made by the analyst.

My complaint is that once CSFB put its own spin on this, the majority of the analyst "community" swallowed it uncritically, and the small investor was beaten out of the game before the market opened.

Had CPQ something to say it should have said it to all investors - and I like the idea of electronic links with investors. Then, at least, we could all have weighed the information and made our own judgements. But I would not want to prevent companies talkign to analysts.
