An interesting mircrocosm in this debate over the second amendment is the state of Pennsylvania which passed a law legalizing concealed carry of registered handguns for private citizens four years ago. Philadelphia petitioned the state legislature and received a blanket waiver to this concealed carry law, disallowing Philadelphians from carrying legal handguns. The crime rate in Pennsylvania has dropped during the last four years except for Philadelphia where crime rates, especially violent crime, has climbed significantly.

Much the same correlation can be seen between the cities of Morton Grove, Illinois where all firearms were banned for all citizens in 1979 and Kennesaw, Georgia which passed a law mandating gun ownership for all residents the same year. In Morton Grove, crimes against private individuals have increased while in Kennesaw, crime against the same demographic, the private citizen, is at an all time low.

I guess it takes an unarmed village to get razed by it's children.
