Mr. John A. Stoops:

DELL is the key, just as MSFT, CSCO, AOL and IBM are the keys. ANY PERCEIVED weakness in these stocks and the rest of the group will suffer. It makes no difference that Maffei has already said MSFT will meet earnings estimates for the Q (which I believe means we will beat by at least $.02!!!), when one of these Bellweathers gets whacked, as IBM and DELL have been, the rest trade in sympathy over the SHORT TERM.

And that is what we are in, a short term trading pattern dictated by the whims of the Street and the media.

I agree, however, that at some point MSFT's split will propel this stock higher. It would be happening right now if the Street and the White House had just behaved a little differently.

MSFT is the top tier key to not only the tech, but the whole market as usual. If MSFT misses number, Nasdaq will lose 500-600 points and DOW 1000-1500 points in a hurry. The second tier players are DELL, CSCO, AOL. IBM, INTC, LU are even more inferior in the ranking. DELL is definitely a key to the market and if not for the DELL miss last Q, nasdaq would have already made a new high.
