American luxury cars, there, are status symbols on par with Mercedes-Benz autos> I've lived in Tokyo for 12yrs. and Hong Kong for 10 yrs. - I'm sorry, but I disagree. If you can name even five American cars ('99 models) which have steering wheels on the righthand side, I would be extremely impressed. Hint: one of them is named after a planet in our solar system. The majority are mass-market vehicles - cars such as Saturns and Fords are definitely NOT status symbols! Unlike the Germans, American automakers have NOT made a serious attempt to adapt their products into the Asian market.
