Anybody know anything about Prisa Networks? In this months issue of "Post" magazine (geared toward digital video studios) is an announcement about Prisa being selected by SGI for networking solutions. Ancor switches are part of the deal.

Some interesting snippets from the article:

"Prisa Networks, Inc, a developer of faster-than-realtime Fibre Chanel adapters and software for the video post production marketplace, has been selected by Silicon Graphics to help SGI penetrate the emerging storage area network (SAN) marketplace."

<snip>

"Planning to combat competitors, including Compaq, HP, 3Com, Seagate, and Sun Microsystems, SGI has developed the Bandwith Solutions program; best-of-breed third-party peripheral products such as storage systems, fabrics and adapters whose brand names will be featured as part of SGI's comprehensive SAN solution."

<snip>

"Prisa is the only networking technology participant. Other Bandwith Solutions members include Ciprico, EMC, Ancor and StorageTek."

<snip>

"According to Marc Friedmann, Prisa president, the interconnection between systems and storage will be Prisa-supplied Fibre Channel hardware and software products, including SAN software and 600 MB/sec, 1Gb/sec host adapters, driver interfaces and high-speed networking software. Prisa will integrate these components with Ancor switches, assemble and test the SANs with storage and CPUs, and deliver a tested, working infrastructure to SGI customers."

<snip>

"Prisa's Friedmann adds, "We are extremely pleased that Silicon Graphics has chosen us to be a key player in their new 'best-of-class' SAN solutions."

Interesting to note another connection between Ancor and EMC, as well as StorageTek.

Dennis Talluto was actually a fan of class 1 FC switching early on and I believe he thought FC 1 switching would be great as a LAN for vertical and other high end applications. If I remember correctly he also had an inkling that FC would be very interesting as a way of moving storaged information before there was a term SANs.
