Basically they are saying that AOL is a good buy for the long term, but they are clueless (neutral) about what AOL will do in the near term. I agree with that, as a long term holder.

Who are these idiots Brown Brothers Harriman? How dare you downgrade AOL! :-) Dawn Simon's analysis doesn't make much sense to me. Does anyone get what she is saying?

Dawn is saying, "gee whiz - my model predicted x price point, and that is what I announced a few months ago. AOL has hit that target and then some. What to do? Say my model is flawed, or issue a short-term neutral and say all is well in the world? Of course, I have to throw in the obligatory long term accumulate - because I'm actually still bullish on the stock .... I'll come back out once things have settled and raise the target price, and look like a genius."

And that, my friend, is peering into the mind of a Street analyst!

S.

If you read the downgrade you will see they kept a long term strong buy on AOL, and only downgraded short term because AOL passed their $110 price.

Which essentially translates into : We think AOL is great long term, and because of that we are downgrading it short term so our $110 price target doesn't make us look like fools, and we can stock up on cheaper shares while we are at it !!!

JMHO, of course.
