IE5: First impressions

Painless upgrade in my case. The second phase of the download got disconnected after getting about 90% through. I groaned, thinking I'd have to start over, but on restart it picked up where it left off. A great feature I hope becomes standard practice for all downloads.

I like the full control over the toolbars and menus. I have crammed all the controls I really use into a single line giving more readable area. The >> thing allowing two-click access to overlapped tool buttons and menu options is a nice touch.

I like the Go button for "go to what's in the address window". It was annoying to previously have to hit the Enter key. I often lean back and browse with mouse only.

The lists attached to the "forward" and "back" buttons are handy.

I like the Windows Update feature that goes out to the MSFT web site and gives a checklist of what you have installed and further stuff you can download fresh or upgrade. You pick and choose what you want, then download the group as a unit.

The ZoomIn/ZoomOut on the right click menu that enlarges images in place is handy. It may have been added by one of the goody packs, don't remember.

I don't notice a dramatic speed improvement, but I have a high-speed connection anyway. It's certainly not any slower.

There is a page to tune into the audio from a slew of Radio stations from around the world. Very cool. I think this came with the NetShow component.

Dan,

Yeah I imagine download times for IE5 have improved by now, you actually got it faster than I did last weekend. I guess I'm not too patient! <g>

My IE5 is currently broke. I had downloaded and installed Windows media player and afterward I could no longer run any Java Script, including SI profiles. I couldn't even run Win media files like the ones on ABC News Cold War site. I sent a description of the problem to MS tech support and a fellow by the name of Zachary responded via email and sent me to a link to download an updated Java VM. I have yet to try it out bit will do so sometime tonight. I was impressed getting a response as soon as I did I really didn't think I would get a response. Here's the email...
